Extractions are the removal of a tooth from its socket by a professional. If a tooth has been damaged, broken or decayed, a dentist can often use a filling, crown or alternative treatment. Extractions may need to be performed when there is overcrowding in the mouth, due to extra teeth, which is often the case for wisdom teeth.
Baby teeth may take an excessive period of time and need to be removed, or for teeth that are shifting after being fitted for braces are also reasons for extractions. Infections, illnesses, and some medications can lead to teeth needing to be removed as these conditions can be detrimental to the immune system.
